Spanish term

el fenotipo que se configura como

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Hello,

In a medical text I am wondering if can simply be translated as "is"..

La atopia es el principal factor de riesgo tanto para la persistencia de hiperreactividad bronquial como para los síntomas de AB (4,5,6) y ***es el fenotipo “asma atópica” el que se configura como ***el modelo de asma que persistirá a lo largo de la vida (22).

Are they simply saying that "the atopic asthma phenotype is associated with lifelong asthma"?

The original Spanish seems a bit flowery for a scientific text if this is the meaning...

Thanks for your help.

and "atopic asthma" is the phenotype which will persist

I agree it's very flowery but some people really do write like this.

***is the phenotype "atopic asthma" which is made up / configured like ***

Having looked up phenotype the same organism can have the same phenotype (as in two types of asthma)

"Atopic asthma" is the phenotype that is/represents ...

I would start a new sentence (or at least put a semi-colon):

"Atopic asthma" is the phenotype that is/represents the model of asthma that lasts one's entire life/throughout life.
