Dutch term
maatman
Dutch to English
Bus/Financial
Human Resources
This is the term used to indicate a sample person with a sample set of assumptions. The meaning is evident from this example (not from my text):
etc."

After a lot of searching, I'm still stuck for a suitable translation. Can anyone offer a good English equivalent? All help appreciated!

Comment: "This fits the context and style perfectly. Thanks. I find it interesting that the English translator of the Eurlex document has enclosed "comparator" in quotes. Why?? @Ron: EurLex is inderdaad redelijk betrouwbaar, maar geenzins heilig :-)"

This is the expression used in a European Commission report on equal opportunities (see section III point 4 link below)
Note from asker:
Dominique, thanks for this. The term doesn't really suit in my context (a bit too "specialist"). However, I've added it to the glossary to reflect the term's status. |

: I like that bilingual display. Is it available for more EU sites?

Eurlex is the only EU website I know of with a fully bilingual display (home page: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/en/index.htm)
