Caravanismo de Ar livre

Portuguese to English Other Tourism & Travel Caravanismo de Ar livre
Caravanismo de Ar Livre

Discussion

Portugal I believe this has a legal meaning in Portugal. See http://www.cm-aljezur.pt/NR/rdonlyres/085E8E7C-338C-42A3-BA6...

"A prática do caravanismo, constitui igualmente um problema, generalizado por todo o país, devido á [sic] insuficiência de locais destinados ao aparcamento destes veículos"; that is, outside designated campsites/trailer parks.

Would not caravanning/camping always be outdoors? A mystery....

Outdoor Caravaning

may also be spelt 'caravanning' (seems strange but I saw it in some sites)

I think it could simply be 'caravaning', as Gilda pointed out in her comment
Example sentence:

I love to go camping and caravaning.

agree Evans (X) : "caravanning" is the UK English spelling. I think you could drop the outdoor as Sue comments.

RVing/RV camping

In U.S. English, that's exactly it. Yes, it's a verb, and there's even been a "GO RVing" campaign for quite a few years.

It is not simply "camping" as camping involves the use of a tent. RV camping is literally camping in an RV; I presume "caravanismo ao ar livre" means one parks outdoors rather than in a trailer park or campsite.
Peer comment(s):

agree marina hennies : IMHO ao'ar livre' is redundant, as you can only use a caravan outdoors, and 'ao ar livre' is translated as 'outdoors'

Thank you! Perhaps campsites are no longer considered the outdoors? :)

A primeira coisa que me veio à cabeça, apesar de o dicionário dizer que o fazem os militares, é bivouac (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bivouac). Não sei se ajuda.
