Juliana Cullafiq (asker) Mar 6, 2010:
@All Thank you very much, you helped me a lot.

Best regards,
Juliana
Lirka Mar 5, 2010:
@Marga I think they are used more or less interchangeably. Listen to this sentence: "Da der Blutdruck starken Schwankungen unterliegt und von vielen Faktoren beeinflusst werden kann, wurde das Konzept einer Blutdruck-Reihenmessung über einen Zeitraum von drei Monaten angewandt." (http://www.basf.com/group/corporate/de/sustainability/employ...

As you can see, ''über einen Zeitraum von drei Monaten'', clearly indicates follow-up, yet Reihenmessung is used 'instead of' Verlaufsmessung. Both valid in medicine.
Marga Shaw Mar 5, 2010:
Serial Measurement for "Verlaufsmessung"? How would you then translate "Reihenmessung" which IMO is not the same as "Verlaufsmessung"? I am still inclined to favour "serial measurement" for "Reihenmessung" and "follow-up measurement" for "Verlaufsmessung". I agree that "history measurement" does not seem to fit here.

For "follow-up measurement please see:
http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:OBdZgSFTDxcJ:www.b...

For "serial measurement" please see:

Lirka Mar 5, 2010:
couldn't agree more with SJLD; History measurements is awful. Please do not use it.
SJLD Mar 5, 2010:
I would use "serial measurements" for "Verlaufsmessungen"
http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/psychology/25664...

The English "history measurements" is certainly not good!
Juliana Cullafiq (asker) Mar 5, 2010:
Hello Marga, I do not have much context and source text does not help at all (English). So I am trying with the reference in German. Another sentence is "Wählen Sie zwischen Einzelwertmessungen und Verlaufsmessungen".
Thank you,
Juliana
Marga Shaw Mar 5, 2010:
@ Juliana Please could you give us some more information, for example a whole sentence or some context would help.

if it refers to the procedure of performing such measurements, I would use:

"tissue hemoglobin monitoring/measurement"

...otherwise I would use sth. like "trend of..." or

"course/follow-up of tissue hemoglobin values"

Many thanks, Goldcoaster!!
agree Lirka : 'serial measurements of tissue hemoglobin values' woud be my choice; I woud avoid saying 'course of'--it does not seem appropriate here
