... might work here nicely if were're talking about the general public, passing custom, walk-ins etc.

You may have a point. I've found the odd US hit, but it doesn't appear to be common in the States. Having said that, a lot of these terms are associated with pedestrianised shopping areas - and the Yanks tend to drive everywhere ...
