Italian term

non esclusivo

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering tender bid documents
context: "Il progetto esecutivo verrà sviluppato in accordo alla normativa tecnica vigente, in particolare, in modo non esclusivo"

Is this just BS ? I suspect it is but any delucidations would be welcome. I also hate "in particolare" which usually means nothing at all.

Discussion

Valeria E. (X) May 22, 2010:
that should not be an easy task!
Tom in London (asker) May 22, 2010:
Silk purse And the role of the translator (me) is to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.....fare una portamonete di seta dall'orecchio di una maiala....
Valeria E. (X) May 22, 2010:
I don't know if it's done deliberately sometimes people write tecnical stuff just too fast and the style does not interest as long as they somehow write a text. It is slobbish for sure.
Tom in London (asker) May 22, 2010:
Excellent ...Valeria. The whole document is so badly written that I am continuously surprising myself as I find simple, straightforward meanings obfuscated behind semi-illiterate prose which, I fear, has been written deliberately in that way, to create an impression of "authority". "Vehicle" is "mezzo di trasporto" and so on......
Valeria E. (X) May 22, 2010:
that is true already the end of this sentence is 'funny'. I would say: in particolare is directed to the words before 'normativa tecnica...' which means that the comma was not necessary and is incorrect.
'normativa tecnica vigente in particolare e in modo non esclusivo.'
Tom in London (asker) May 22, 2010:
I should add..... ... that the document in general is very poorly written in Italian.
