Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) bankruptcy settlement
Hello. I'm in doubt as to translate "créditos" throughout the entire document which concerns a creditors' agreement about a bankruptcy settlement. I.e. these "créditos" are sums owed to creditors. I don't thinks I can just put "credits" in the plural in English can I? I'm even thinking it could be "debts". An example: "Los acreedores titulares de créditos con privilegio especial o general....". Thanks in advance for any help.

"Creditos" are amounts that creditors are entitled to receive in a bankruptcy settlement. They are debts from the viewpoint of the bankrupt company or its owners.

Claims. "General-Preference or Special-Preference Creditors."

In Bankruptcy, the "créditos" are claims (that creditors trying to recover). In corporate bankruptcy, there is competition for all the bankrupt/insolvent company's (as the debtor) creditors going after the company's debts. There is the Clasificación de los créditos (ranking of claims). So there are general-preference creditors (for unsecured debts) and special-preference creditors (for specific or secured debts).
