Discussion

Andrew Hunt Aug 6, 2010:
I will leave Quandt to sort this out with you Luana, I may just have confused the issue by mentioning Home Office as an agency.!
Carlos Quandt Aug 6, 2010:
home office Despite the capital letters, I don't think it refers to the government agency. The context mentions terms -- profit centers, senior management, reinsurance services division -- that seem unrelated to the UK Home Office, but they make perfect sense for a reinsurance company. Try a search on their site (homeoffice.gov.uk) and you'll see what I mean.
Luana Fernandes (asker) Aug 6, 2010:
Capital letters Hi Andrew and quandt, I found another occurrence of "Home Office" with capital letters in my text and I am pretty sure now you guys are right, take a look:
"Responsibilities of Regional Sanctions Counsel:
with support from the Home Office Sanctions Counsel and the Chief Compliance Officer) provide advice to the Regional Sanctions Officer and other relevant employees regarding sanctions programmes maintained by OFAC, the UN and other relevant governments, and EU requirements pertaining to Politically Exposed Persons"

Specially because they are talking about EU.
You can suggest the translation of this term then.
Tks a lot!!
Carlos Quandt Aug 6, 2010:
Andrew You're right about the "Home Office with capitals".
But I think the context is clear; the term "home office" is commonly used in the insurance business.
The Home Office is the United Kingdom government department responsible for immigration control, security and order. As such it is responsible for the police, United Kingdom Borders Agency and MI5. ...

Andrew Hunt Aug 6, 2010:
home office or Home Office? A silly or banal observation maybe but i see in your request you give home office in lower case and not capital initial letters but in the context it is given as Home Office with capitals, which could mean Ministro do Interior - highly unlikly within the context of Insurance and reinsurance jargon but worth noting , only your full context will give you the real meaning if it is home - office or The Home Office.
