Japanese term

社会相当性

Japanese to English Bus/Financial Insurance
Hi everyone, I am translating a text describing various violations of rules which may be committed by insurance solicitors.
One of these consists of offering the policy holder or insured party a certain type of benefits: 社会相当性を超える物品・サービス・供応等、特別の利益. I am really not sure as to how to translate 社会相当性を超える. So far I have "appropriateness" for 相当性... Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

(exceed) social appropriateness / the norm of social appropriatness

----- I feel that what you originally suggested with the word “appropriateness” suits the context very well since you are translating text on various violations of rules. Violations of rules is about inappropriate behavior.

----- Therefore, in your context, I believe that 社会相当性を超える物品・サービス・供応等、特別の利益… can be described as “goods (etc.) that exceed social appropriateness” or “goods (etc.) that exceed the norm of social appropriateness.”

----- Dictionary definition of 相当 with example:
それは相当の処置であった。It was an appropriate [a suitable] measure. (Source Shogakukan Japanese – English Dictionary)

Please pardon the spelling of the second appropriateness in my answer. It should have an extra "e."

Thank you, SRamasubbu! Oh yes. Because it's something that's inappropriate. It's neither appropriate nor acceptable.

There are hits for the term, however I am not sure if it fits the context you have.
We translators may not have utter responsibility in choosing a term unless it was obvious or clear, while we can offer selections if possible.
This is one of them.

Thank you very much and my apologies for the delay. "Appropriateness", suggested by another answerer, seemed to fit the context better.

social standard

相当性 can be translated as reasonableness, but standard would also work for this, in my opinion. Something unreasonably expensive.

agree Katalin Horváth McClure : This is about gifts or similar things that exceed what is considered normal, acceptable by the society/culture, in other words, something that is considered excessive by social standards.

social adequacy

The new theory of negligence, breach of duty and objective to avoid risk (deviation from the social adequacy) to emphasize the subjective predictability relative would not have focus, however, vague sense of insecurity in the barrel was not enough concern, some concrete predictability was assumed to be necessary.
