HI,
i would like to know if in this context dependiente/independiente mean employed (by a company) / Selfemployed.

Example of a context:

I think so... Especially since they use it again in: "16 Independiente agremiado". So these are "freelancers" either on their own or in association with others. By elimination, the "dependientes" are those who are employed by another company and thus do not "speak for themselves", so to speak.

"Dependiente" can also mean shop clerk, but not in this context.
Self-employed people may be members of a union, but they are still "independientes" as far a social security goes.

Since it is talking about types of employees I think this would be a more accurate translation. Hope it helps.

Another way of using the same dependent root-word to label an employee and an indepedent contractor.
