Hi, on new laptop and have lost all my old notes. Is this translated as "Paragraph" for legislation but "Section" for regular contracts? How is Odst. and all that translated between the two?

Důležitý rozdíl je, že čeština používá zkratky jako odst., písm., anglické odkazy na zákony pak čísla naskládají za sebou v závorkách.
Česky tedy §45, písm. a, odst. 4, zatímco anglicky pak Section 45(a)(4)

I always use this, using the format Article 1 (1) (a) etc., but I take the view that as long as it is consistent throughout it doesn't really matter.

Discussion
In US code there are Titles, Chapters and, wait for it, ... '§' e.g. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/9/usc_sup_01_9_10_1.html
EU legislation is much more straightforward - it uses Articles in the format I suggest below.
Therefore for the sake of simplicity I always use the EU format, whether for legislation or for contracts/treaties, etc., unless specifically referring to a piece of UK or US legislation, in which case I use the format that is employed in the respective country.
