Portuguese term

meios hábeis

Portuguese to English Art/Literary Religion buddhism
In the following paragraph:

"Com estas duas referências, que equivalem já às duas asas da realização, a saber, a sabedoria e a compaixão ou **meios hábeis**, podemos estar no mundo e contribuir para o fim das injustiças."

I am translating a piece relating to Buddhism - I understand from research that wisdom and compassion are regarded as the two "wings" of enlightenment. I have also found many other references in Portuguese to the "meios hábeis" in the same context. What I can't find, however, is a similar term in English - can anyone help?

many thanks!

skillful means

effective means

This term sounds a good deal more natural in English than "skillful means," and the references cited by Marlene are just as likely to simply be poor translations into English from oriental languages as they are to represent a consecrated term in English language texts dealing with the Buddhist faith.

Boa sorte.
Note from asker:
Hi Robert - I agree that it sounds odd (which is why I probably hadn't successfully come up with it and then googled it) but I have found a lot of references to it in addition to Marlene's, many of which seem fairly reliable sources. Thanks!

mindfulness

i don't know if it's ideal or not, but if one looks at texts on wisdom and compassion, the concept of mindfulness comes up frequently and seems to fit the concept...
