español term

con toda calma

español al inglés Otros Jergas
This Spanish patient in a US hospital was in dire need of insertion of a urinary catheter to help him void a painfully engorged bladder. The family is writing to complain that the nurse on shift would not respond to their pleadings to do so, and instead was filling out paperwork.

. . . (la enfermera) alzando sus brazos dijo: déjenme hacer mi trabajo. Cuando terminó ella con sus papeles, ya cuando la señorita pinkie terminaba, entró al cuarto con toda calma. No nos gustó nada el trato de la enfermera . . . .

I don't think this should be translated literally, but rather should somehow express the view that the nurse was in no hurry and did not appear to care about the patient. Any ideas?

agree Remy Arce : based on the fact that she cared more about the paperwork than about the patient, your answer fits well the context.

Gracias, Remy. And unfortunately I've seen too many unconcerned people in the health care field.

She took her sweet time walking in.

A colloquial way to say it.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Muriel Vasconcellos : Clever, but I think it's a llittle too snide for the context.

agree Jim Tucker (X) : Nice one - the speaker is upset. Works well. If you want to take the snideness factor down a notch, then just leave out "sweet."
