Marika Please see the definitions below. Moreover, I've not said your suggestion is wrong, I have argued that it's not accurate. As regards agains the professionality of translating into numerous languages, I must repeat that it's just your personal point of view and it totally depends on efforts, experience and expertise. Let's agree to disagree. You have proposed your version and I have mine. Let's comment on the translation and not on personal qualities.

"colpire" non è un verbo che si utilizza in ambito legale, soprattutto in questo contesto. colpire ha mille significati diversi, è colloquiale, ha mille sinonimi (tra cui pregiudicare, che vuol dire anche: compromettere, danneggiare, nuocere, intaccare), tutti perfettamente pertinenti nel contesto. per quanto riguarda i miei colleghi, non penso proprio che mi diano l'accordo per solidarietà (questa non l'ho mai sentita) ma perché, essendo esperti nel legale e madrelingua italiani, sanno che la resa è corretta. tu dici di poter tradurre in ... quante? 5/6/7 lingue target, per me non è assolutamente professionale, e non è un punto di vista, è un punto fermo nella carriera di tutti i traduttori. e per me il discorso è chiuso, perché stiamo veramente cadendo nel ridicolo.

Marika If you be a little bit more attentive you would clearly see that the links provided pertain not only English but also to Italian. As to the professionality of translating from one's mother tonge, it's just one of the numerous points of views existing in the translation area. Please try not to sound so absolute an opinion. Never say never. The exact meaning of the verb is clearly given in the below explanation taken from a weighty and respected source. My knowledge of English and Italian affords me to sufficiently understand the correlation. And save me God to teach you Italian, for I'm only trying to explain you the sense and aspects of the English term, which you distorted a bit by using the said Italian verb. Many people and many opinions, therefore I always refer to dictionaries. As for the application of "colpire" you may find it by the links to the Italian sources I have humbly given and there are many more. 17 consents (by Italians) looks like a sign of pure solidarity by origin. Please try to avoid so express statements as "you don't know/understand etc.", which I cannot know for sure. And finally, when I argue something it means that I'm 100% sure of it.

Vitaliy.. ..if you want to talk about this matter seriously, let's talk about it. From a professional point of view, it is not professional at all for a translator to translate into a language that is not its mothertongue, unless you are a bilingual (and even in this case, it is not always possible). The reason is that you don't know the exact meaning and all the different under-meanings that a word may have. Secondarily, it seems a bit pretentious to teach Italian to an Italian mothertongue and the links you posted refer especially to English language and not to Italian language (a link is not sufficient..). This is obvious as you are not mothertongue and you can't understand the exact meaning of the verb 'pregiudicare'. I'm not so arrogant to teach you something (and I don't need to) but the verb you propose (colpire) is not so used in legal documents, it is a sort of colloquial verb, not suitable at all in a legal Italian document. And, last but not least, there are other 17 (till now) Italian translators, some of them highly specialised in legal texts, that agree with me and my translation. So I suggest you to be more modest, especially when you're not 100% sure of what you're saying.

Marika Please do not judge people by their appearance. To be a good translator a person needs not just be a native in one language but he must have a profound knowledge of a pair of language with due account for area expertise. As regards my translating or not in and from Italian, t's just a tentative opinion based on what is stated on my page or my uploaded CV but it's jusy my modesty that prevented me from stating that I can also translate Italian, Dutch, Polish and Bulgarian... In addition, my knowledge of law and English, apart from the dictionaries cited below (both En-It and It-En), does afford me to argue that being synonymous affect and prejudice have different meanins and application.

Please note the difference between the legal effect of affect (which is more general) and prejudice (which is included in the former notion but not exceptionally) Each synonym has however its own specific meaning and application.
