Italian term

risulta specifico

Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
I'm trying to understand how to translate this phrase, which seems to imply some other meaning than "specific". Here's the orignal phrase, from a description of a chemical test carried out on lab animals:

"Inoltre il metodoo risulta essere ripetibile, riproducibile ed accurato pertanto il metodo risulta specifico ed adatto per gli studi di stabilità."

My attempt is as follows: "Furthermore, the method also appears to be repeatable, reproducible and accurate, therefore the method proves to be specific and suitable for stability studies."

Any help is appreciated!

thanks,

Peter

Specific ... ... in the statistical sense, in that the test is very good at correctly identifying negatives. Contrast this with a highly sensitive test, which is very good at corectly identifying positives.

We deal with a particular speciality here. Your way of the verb translation is quite convincing. While "specifico" is simply applied to the field in question, i.e. the exact type of the chemical test. No other test may give this kind of result, so we limit the translation to the words like "narrow". You can always make it shorter!

I think this may fit or be "suitable" :)
