Spanish term

camino consolidado

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
In Argentina, we use this term a lot to refer to "dirt roads" that are well maintained and that have been "compacted" by the use of heavy machinery. I´m not that sure of its equivalent.. one option could be "gravel-surfaced" road, but in this case gravel from a quarry is used to improve the surface of the road and I´m not sure if in a "camino consolidado" gravel from another location is used.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

@ philgoddard,
Yes, I did not provide context in the first place because I considered it was not helpful... Thanks!
philgoddard Mar 14, 2012:
Thanks. Please remember to include context rather than waiting to be asked for it. I think Dolores' suggestion of "unpaved" is best.
Maria Teresa Navarro (asker) Mar 14, 2012:
CONTEXT: the authour explains how to get to a certain location: "seguir camino consolidado nro. XX, el cual intersecta la ruta nacional xx, ...."
philgoddard Mar 14, 2012:
It could be "improved road", but could we have the context please?

Una sugerencia.

agree philgoddard : I'd go for "unpaved". We don't know that it's gravel.
