German term
Randbebauung
German to English
Art/Literary
Architecture
postmodern architecture

Hi Jenny - and welcome to the Club.
I'd say you're dealing not only with post-modern architecture, but also with post-modern German. Lots of architects like to dress up a (fairly simple) concept, so it really looks good, and I think this has happened here. For all it is described as an "L-förmige Randbebauung, I think it is misleading because an L-shape cannot truly be said to "enclose" anything. To go further: Ithink the "Baufunktionen" are nothing more than (simple) buildings, and that the "Bauvolumina" are nothing more than simple blocks (of buildings). And if you challenge the author of this nonsense, I think (s)he will admit this. But it sounds good (does it???)
But don't just take my word for it; wait for some more responses - or at least, some peer comments.

buildings/structures forming an l-shape around a raised public square
This segment makes it obvious that it is a "Randbebauung"
