This is a little bit tricky, so please bear with me.
My aim is to explain the above proverb (of Japanese origin) to a Turkish-speaking audience, so please could you give a fairly literal translation, but nevertheless in colloquial language?
It is of interest as it explains the highly collectivist nature of Japanese culture – the nail that sticks out is a metaphor for someone who is different from others. The hammering in is the forced imposition of conformity.
