Russian term

юриспруденция

Russian to English Law/Patents Law (general)
Добрый день,

я перевожу диплом одного московского юридического университета.
Студенту присуждается квалификация юриста по специальности "Юриспруденция".
Как лучше перевести (на амер. английский) термин "юриспруденция" в данном случае?

С уважением,
Игорь.

jurisprudence Frankly, I see no issue in using the term "jurisprudence" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurisprudence in the given context.
Not sure "JD" is the appropriate term here. Firstly, JD is a degree that is obtained in a common law jurisdiction. Russian law is based on a civil-law tradition (Romanic-German system). In Russia "диплом по специальности "Юриспруденция"" implies that a person has studied law for 5 years full-time (6 years part-time) and is not exactly an equivalent of JD or LLB (it will also require selecting a specialised area of study, like civil law or civil procedure, criminal law, etc. at year 4 - it means that e.g. civil procedure is studied again in more detail by students who select such area).
