David Lin Jun 15, 2013:
Understanding seems fine for me. Since 事项 means "matter" in law. How does this translation sound to you for your context -

No other agreement or matter of understanding of any nature, whether verbal or written, expressed or implied, shall exist ...."

It sounds to me that the intention of the Chinese clause might want to avoid any thing such as 'Memorandum of Understanding" 谅解备忘录 hence the rather unusual 理解事项 was included as a term of the contract.

Jinhang Wang Jun 10, 2013:
用 “默契” 一词似乎比较妥当。“理解” 在中文中并没有这个意思。
Jinhang Wang Jun 10, 2013:
这里中文 “理解” 一词的使用本身就不够妥当。

understanding 的意思是

■[count noun]an informal or unspoken agreement or arrangement.
非正式的协议或协定、默契。

understanding

I am not sure what is your question, but 理解事项 refers to, as you say, understanding.

“合同当事人”之间不存在其他任何口头的或书面的、明示的或暗示的协议或理解事项。
No other agreement or understanding of any nature, whether verbal or written, expressed or implied, shall exist between the parties to the contract.

BTW, I'd change 'parties to the contract' to 'parties hereto'. This slipped my mind earlier.
