Recolha da raça

Medical (general)
Nephrology
I'm a bit stuck with this, the sentence is:
A responsável pelo tratamento solicita **a recolha da raça** dos participantes, justificando a sua necessidade do seguinte modo: "A recolha da raça justifica-se pelo facto da filtração renal glomerular, um parâmetro associado à função renal, estar associado à raça."
MTIA.

collect ethnic background information
Though I would rewrite the sentence and say something like 'The investigator requested that participants provide ethnic background information, which was justified based on . . .
The resulting final sample was composed of 181 participants (67 males, 114 females) with an average age of 20.19 years (S. D. = 4.05). 81% of the sample self-identified as White (n = 146), 8.3% African-American (n = 15), 4.4% Asian (n = 8), 3.3% Latino/Hispanic (n = 6), and 2.2% “other” (n = 4). One participant did provide ethnic background information. Participants reported using the Internet for 6.80 years.

If you have not collected ethnic background information about patients at the start, it is likely to be much harder to get it later, and you will have no basis even for selecting a sample for analysis, particularly if you need matched samples, or a booster sample of a particular ethnic group.
