Discussion

Howard Sugar Jan 8, 2014:
I think we are cutting hairs here. If we say a custumor satisfaction survey in English we are not talking about a a man surveying land. If we talk about a Data Breach Study, we are talking about the analysis of data. By the same token a geological studies, or data are more or less equal. In the case of geological survey, we might indeed be taking about a man surveying land. You might choose works if you don't like data.

I'm a bit confused now ... Is "geological study" different from "geological survey"? and as for "elaborati geologici", what about "geological papers"?
Paola Battagliarini Jan 7, 2014:
In this case I think "elaborato" means simply "map", i.e. a graphical document (integrating the "relazione geologica", which is a text)
Tom in London Jan 7, 2014:
hmm geological studies would be "studi geologici". Surveys would be "rilievi". So neither would be correct here.
Howard Sugar Jan 7, 2014:
I have seen elaborati geologici translated as geological studies which would solve some of the problems. Surveys might also work
Tom in London Jan 7, 2014:
nope.. ..it doesn't. In construction, for instance, it means "drawings".
Howard Sugar Jan 7, 2014:
Elaborati simply means processed data

since you've already used "maps" elsewhere, this is my suggestion
