John The link is opening an invalid page. Anyway, I think the Den would be part of the apartment, and in this case the "cave" must be an area or subdivision of the building or of the floor, as the text says "in the 1st cave of the 2nd floor". How could a bulding floor divided, in English?

Exposed basement Could be piso -2, i.e., below street level (rés do chão), but if the building is on a steep slope, the back side of the building may have various lower floors with varandas. Even so, the phrasing does not make sense. Possible typo: 2º Bloco, and not Piso?

Hmmm.... How can it be a basement on the 2nd floor...? The specific context is a wealthy foreign couple buying a somewhat luxurious apartment in Portugal. I doubt they would buy an apartment in the basement.

first basement floor

Em português existe outra palavra para a contagem dos patamares de uma casa ou edifício, é ela a palavra piso. O 1.º piso (ou piso 1) é equivalente ao rés-do-chão, o 2.º piso equivalente ao 1.º andar, e assim por diante. Esta diferença na contagem tem por base o caminhar(/andar) exigido para que se chegue ao próximo patamar (no caso dos andares), e o piso significa o primeiro patamar que se pisa ao entrar num edifício. Quando os andares vão para baixo a numeração dos pisos percorre no sentido negativo: piso -1 (equivalente à 1.ª cave), piso -2, piso -3, etc
