Non, "it" est avant tout ça.
Impediment=obstacle/entrave.
On pourrait interprêter avec ce qui suit dans la phrase:
le plus grand obstacle à la joie est de ne pas trouver le réconfort et la réalisation de soi dans/pour ce que Dieu voudrait pour nous.
Ne serait-ce pas ça ??
