The study on prevalence, underlying causes, risk and protective factors in respect to suicides and attempted suicides in children, adolescents and youth confirmed suicidal behaviour and its underlying mental health problems such as anxiety and depression as the most critical issue affecting adolescents and young people.Kazakhstan. The study aimed to provide support to the Government in understanding the prevalence of suicide and attempted suicide among adolescents and youth, and identifying underlying causes, protective and risk factors, with the final goal to inform policy and programme decisions to address suicide cases among this population. An in-depth analysis confirmed that suicidal behaviours are a seriousproblem for the youth with a high percentage of attempted suicides found among high school pupils and among control cases in the psychological autopsy study.
