Quindi, se girassi la frase probabilmente sarebbe ancora meglio (in base alla sintassi che preferisci, ovviamente): "Le illustrazioni mostrano scene pagane e sono anche molto moderne e realistiche. Molte carte mostrano/raffigurano infatti anche dei computer".

Beh, più che altro direi che il problema in questi casi è il contesto... Se hai zero contesto, anche la cosa più "stupida" può diventare incomprensibile o essere interpretabile in n modi diversi, mentre la stessa cosa con del materiale di riferimento sotto appare come di una banalità assoluta...
