Spirit is generally used for God. But, the inner Spirit in man is the soul. So it should be translated as आत्मा.

अंर्तज्योति/आत्मज्योति

This text is belong to Buddhism, which mostly relay on the light of soul for being enlightened by self, as it states in the Buddha's famous phrase of Appa Deepo Bhav. And in concern to the philosophy of Buddhism light and the spirit have a unified expression to get Bodh for being Buddha. तेज means for light of spirit. So that single word can describe it much.
