Debbie, I disagree. The general topic of the piece is collegiality, but this sentence is about families and the communities, not colleagues.

Given that the people in question are not עמיתים לעבודה, which is the usual usage of the term "עמית" currently, I think that "congenially" is an appropriate translation.
