Spanish term

mandante

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Systems, Networks this involves a call-for-bids
This refers to a call-for-bids to supply radio communications equipment. The full sentence reads:
"Estos archivos deberán contener la totalidad de antecedentes exigidos por el Mandante para cada una de las presentaciones."
My question is this: What would we call the "Mandante" in English? This is the party to whom the bids will be submitted -- i.e., the contracting party. In another context, we might use the word "Principal" (as in a power-of-attorney), but I don't think that fits here.

THANK YOU!

Principal is fine in this context.

What is principal?

agree Billh : This is OK. The fact is that there is no fixed term for this. Most invitations to tender simply refer to its name, the company, the procurer, etc. But as a generic term for this I would go with your suggestion.

Depends on the context, but you can simply use client

tenderee

This sounds very much like a call to tender - in which case the person making that call is known as the "tenderee", and those putting in a bid are the "tenderers"
Peer comment(s):

agree neilmac : Strictly speaking true, but there seems to be a reluctance to use words like this nowadays. I have one client who desn't even like "invoicee"...
