Portuguese term
abertura de inquérito porventura
Portuguese to English
Bus/Financial
Insurance
Again in an insurance contract, the end of this text has me lost:
"A Seguradora poderá exigir atestada ou certidões de autoridades competentes, bem como a resultado de inquéritos, sem prejuízo do pagamento da indenização no prazo devido em virtude do fato que produziu o sinistro ou ainda copia da certidão de abertura de inquérito porventura instaurado."
This is under the Claims Clause. Here goes my try in the second part (which I only need):
"...., nowwithstanding the indemnity payment in a time manner in view of the incurred loss or even copies of the certificate of the investigations which were in fact accidentally opened.

where an investigation was opened, a copy of the relevant certificate
Suggestion. I would translate this part of the sentence as:
"the insurance company may request.... or, where an investigation was opened, a copy of the relevant certificate"...
"where" - in the case / in the event / porventura
"the insurance company may request.... or, where an investigation was opened, a copy of the relevant certificate"...

perhaps establishing the opening of the investigation
Without prejudice (standard legal term, at least in the UK, meaning that the payment of compensation will not necessarily be affected) to payment of compensation in due time because of the damage/loss incurred, the Insurer may require attestations, or testimonial/statements from the competent authorities, as well as the results of inquiries, or even a copy of the testimonial/statement perhaps establishing the opening of the investigation.
Seth, my attempt, of course without seeing the whole context it is difficult, but I hope this helps. I think it may refer to an initial statement/report (given to police) reporting loss/damage/theft etc.. most insurers will not consider claims unless they have been reported to the police (whereupon the victim will receive a crime number).

Portuguese term (edited):
copia da certidão de abertura de inquérito porventura instaurado
copy of the certificate of an investigation which happened to be opened
copia da certidão de abertura de inquérito porventura instaurado." => copy of the certificate of an investigation which happened to be opened

certificate of a potentially commenced investigation
The "certificate of investigation" implies the opening thereof. There is no need to translate the "abertura", since the certificate of investigation is obviously only issued when the investigation has begun.
5 hrs
[... copy of the certificate] evidencing the inception of a relative investigation
