Discussion

katerina turevich (asker) Nov 27, 2014:
I translated it as Reversible three-point hitch (sideshift 70cm) or front mounted DECK ....

?
katerina turevich (asker) Nov 27, 2014:
i think it's about mounting/positioning/place "Omkeerbare vaste driepuntsbok (sideshift 70cm) of frontgetrokken bok (sideshift 60cm)."
rather than trailing, which is more the action it does on the ground
Appears only one time in the document in technical specifications.
It's online too. a bit of a headache to download it. It's a Herder machine. Thanks.
John Holloway Nov 26, 2014:
context is king? . . to (almost) coin a phrase ; )
freekfluweel Nov 26, 2014:
@Asker: more context needed in general... ... not only for this question!
John Holloway Nov 26, 2014:
@Katerina With a bit more context we can confirm what bok should be translated as . .
John Holloway Nov 26, 2014:
@ freek . . and quite understandable that you made that assumption, as bok has an obscure meaning here, being an abbreviation of monteerbok which, in turn, is vakjargon and doesn't appear in Van Dale! For my sins I spent a lifetime as a grease monkey (hobbyist) followed by a couple of years of actually working as one - in Amsterdam. Mechanics have their own language (some of it very colourful!) but this of course creeps into mechanical brochure copy etc. Also written by vaklui. Just another observation: An agricultural tractor (and I presume that's the vehicle here) doesn't often have a front-mounted cabin. Despite the fact that it often has to be accurately steered, this has been done for decades from the back - and front cabs are too generic to be patentable.
freekfluweel Nov 26, 2014:
@JH: kan, dan zit ik er geheel naast, maar als NLer dacht ik meteen aan de cabine bij "bok"...
John Holloway Nov 26, 2014:
.. bok is not (only) a cabin search term (not in van Dale): monteerbok; see second result (pdf) at para. 6.2 (refers to mounting ancillary tool to mother vehicle):
Plaats de machine op de bok, op een daarvoor geschikte vlakke stabiele ondergrond . - Monteer bok met de bijbehorende borgpennen. - Maak het koppelstuk ...
freekfluweel Nov 26, 2014:
Normaal zou je daar de motor verwachten maar voor beter zicht is deze naar achteren verhuisd en is de cabine naar voren "getrokken".
katerina turevich (asker) Nov 25, 2014:
Hi Michael, I have seen the linguee link you offer, and then I put "front trailed" in google, and it's not convincing.
front-mounted is about right?

front trailed

Ancillary tractor equipment may be mounted at the front or rear of a tractor. NB: There are three relevant modes of front and rear mounting here: (a) "Rear mounted" rear trailed equipment. (b) "Front mounted" rear trailed equipment. (Same equipment, mounted with drive and coupling facing the tractor - i.e. equipment covers ground in the reverse direction of its rear-mounted position.) (c) Front trailed. (Which refers to front mounting of specially-designed front trailed equipment - where drive and linkage is 'flipped' to the back of the ancillary equipment, so that the equipment moves across the ground in the same direction as it does when trailed from the back of the tractor.) The distinction is made in the reference video, which also contains supers referring to (the distinction between) front mounted and front trailed ancillary equipment.

Another example of (c), above: a front-mounted, front-trailed mower. Note: mower mounted on front of tractor but design enables it to be trailed instead of pushed (<Trekken gaat makkelijker dan duwen>). Tractor is clearly moving forward (mowed grass is behind the mower). And: Tractor cab is at back of tractor. See http://www.fella.nl/schijvenmaaiers-frontaanbouw/

Yet another example of (c) above: This manufacturer lists front and rear-mounted harvesters under <trailed harvesters> http://www.grimme.com/uk/products/erntetechnik-1 . Both front-mounted and rear-mounted harvesters are mounted on rear-cabin tractors!
Peer comment(s):

neutral freekfluweel : That would be the cutting unit, here it says "bok", the place where the driver is seated. Btw: your vid shows a conventional tractor with the "bok" at the back! "Frontgetrokken" is patented. / It's not about the equipment, see John Deere's ref!

The patent applies to the ancillary equipment, shown here on rear cabin tractor http://www.votex.nl/nl/producten/land-tuinbouw/klepelmaaiers... Bok: cabin or linkage/mounting <..allerlei voorwerpen ..om er iets op te zetten of ..zitten> (van dale
