I did not see your comment when I submitted my answer some 7 hours ago. Don't think it was there at the time.//At 10am I suggested Lateral Movement, so when Lateral Shift came up as an answer, I added another variation. Can retrace the timing for that...

The farming community (to say nothing of the upwardly mobile suburban who mows his lawn on a Sunday) is quite literate nowadays. Don't underestimate their capacity for understanding instructions or their command of language. Lateral is no esoteric word.
agree Jack den Haan : Would agree with that (or lateral displacement) in a technical context. Wouldn't use either term for describing the movement of the machine, though. // Yes, agree with you. It's the given sentence that makes it a bit confusing, I guess.

I can only go by what she says, which is that it's about adjusting the angle of the boom. That sounds rather technical to me and possibly not about sideways movement at all?
