The solution was to use Fusion ioTurbine virtualization caching software installed on ESXi servers to transform flash memory on a single Dell R720 Fusion ION Data Accelerator appliance into read cache for all servers. We served up 650GB LUNs of cache to each ESXi server.

With minor modifications to our infrastructure, this solution exceeded our requirements. Some highlights include:

2x faster web and application response times
5x the workload at 5x performance—we reached our 5x workload requirements, while significantly increasing the available performance. This will ensure applications remain fast and responsive as we grow.
