Ik ken niet de hele context, maar het lijkt hier te gaan over een systeem met rails. In dit geval gaat het over een rail/baan die naar buiten (dus buiten het systeem/de installatie) voert. Je hebt ook de inward track, die naar binnen (dus in het systeem) voert.
