: Yes, in fact! I was led astray in my own answer by Asker's own use of 'litière' which I did not question! / Me too! And of course, in more general terms, for litter as in bedding; but as you rightly point out, the context here is quite clear.

I can only assume (without any specialist knowledge in the field!) tht 'layer here refers in fact to a 'laying hen' — 'poule pendeuse'

Do note that your 'broiler' litter' isn't quite just '...de volaille' — it's obvious that they are making a specific distinction between 'layer' (= for eggs) and 'broiler' (= for cooking) hens

Merci, F-X ! However, while wondering about the 'layer' part, I foolishly accepted Asker's 'litière', which as W/A points out, is not right here — 'litter' in this context being something of a euphemism for 'droppings'!
