I've found "pick up current", "attraction excitation" and "operative range" but have no clear idea of which term might apply.

pick-up is sufficient. But if you choose this term, it should be reflected in the glossary, too.

I will bow to your superior knowledge as an engineer and use "pick-up". Is "pick-up" alone OK or would "pick-up excitation" be better?

@ Hilary I am very keen to know what translation had been used at the end.
As the question was closed based on community grading, nobody has corresponding feedback, esp. as grading was already done as I entered the scene.

initial excitation Is a term used for excitation of rotating machines and slightly different from that used to attract, contract or pull magnetisable reed contacts together. The initial excitation serves for building up the required magnetic flux to accelerate the rotor.

I added the definition to my proposal.

Thank you everybody! I had a good look at all your references and decided to go for "initial excitation" because it says what it means and is used in a respectable looking website for exactly the same senor type.
