Description of International Relations and World Order

The course will examine the nature and dynamics of international relations in the contemporary global system, focusing on differing concepts of order in the post-Cold War world. It aims to make you think critically about the nature of international relations and about the extent to which western interests, institutions and culture dominate the world system.

The course addresses such questions as: is the contemporary international system ‘unipolar’ or ‘multipolar’?; what role does the USA play in international affairs?; what are the prospects for international peace and cooperation in the twenty-first century and is there a ‘clash of civilisations’?

Nowy porządek świata (łac. Novus Ordo Mundi, ang. New World Order, skrótowo: NPŚ, NWO (z ang.)) – termin wykorzystywany do opisu istotnej zmiany w międzynarodowej polityce polegającej na przemianach, jakie miało wprowadzić wdrożenie czternastu punktów Wilsona, utworzenie Ligi Narodów czy ONZ, a także w stosunku do układu sił politycznych na świecie, który ukształtował się w latach 50. XX wieku.

Po zakończeniu zimnej wojny określenie Nowy Porządek Świata było używane przez Michaiła Gorbaczowa i George'a H. W. Busha oraz wielu innych członków Klubu Bilderberg, Komisji Trójstronnej i Rady Stosunków Zagranicznych rządu USA dla określenia zmian jakie nastąpiły na świecie po jej okresie. Obecnie często pojęcie NPŚ odnosi się do rządu światowego, któremu podlegać mają wszystkie państwa[1].
