Spanish term

saltos entre tramos de carril

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial
From the assembly instructions for a piece of heavy machinery (I imagine, there is no mention what the machine is (the company designs, manufactures, assembles and maintains water treatment machinery")

"Alineación: En toda la longitud el carril está perfectamente nivelado vertical y horizontalmente y son saltos entre tramos de carril."

Firstly, the verb "ser" seems odd ("haber" would seem a lot more natural to me) and secondly, it would seem that you don't normally want gaps - assuming thats what the 'saltos' are - between rail sections

Any ideas?

Glad to be of help :-)

I've suggested it as an answer.

Genius! That hadn't occurred to me or my Spanish translator wife. Suggest as an answer please so I can give you points when I close the question
Denise Phelps Sep 8, 2015:
Typo I imagine that it's a typo, and should read "sin saltos entre...". "i" and "o" are next to each other on the keyboard...
William Pairman (asker) Sep 8, 2015:
A bit more context... Here's the next bit

Posicionar al final del recorrido del carril el tope y las chapa de detección del inductivo de final de carrera.

Don't know if that helps any.

I meant to add that the company makes things like sluice gates, liquid-solid separators, decanters featuring swing bridges and stuff like that

Typo

At the asker's request, I'm posting my discussion entry.

As one would logically expect there to be no gaps between rail sections, and because "i" is next to "o" on the keyboard, I suggest that "*son* saltos entre tramos de carril" is a typo for "*sin* saltos...".
