Italian term

happenings

Italian to English Bus/Financial Food & Drink meetings/events (perhaps also social?) in the business world
Dear all,

I'm trying to understand the meaning of the word "happenings" in the Italian context. To me, it conjures notions of the Communion and Liberation yearly event in Rimini, or of the 1960s American usage of the word, in the hippie context. But I'm unfamiliar of its sense in a business context. Here's the text I'm translating, from a translation website in Italy (incidentally, in the North, not far from Rimini):

[It falls under a page entitled "Corporate Events" (or at least that's my translation; the Italian is "Eventi aziendali"):

"L’attività è focalizzata sull’organizzazione e progettazione di eventi aziendali quali:

lancio di nuovi prodotti
inaugurazioni
campagne di comunicazione
***happening***
cene di gala
banqueting
team building
puntando soprattutto su programmi creativi, location affascinanti, un’attenta pianificazione e una vasta gamma di itinerari e programmi sociali in grado di soddisfare al meglio le richieste dei ns. clienti"

I'm imagining some sort of social/business-synergistic event where new ideas are discussed and new relations forged. But - if this IS the proper meaning - how would one translate that?

This might possibly be some new kind of reality in the business world I'm unaware of.

Thank you!

Peter

Maybe "activities" would fit the bill. Or presentations?
Tom in London Nov 26, 2015:
Groovy, Man "Happening" (as a plural) has been appropriated by Italian PR people who think they're cool, but completely misunderstanding its meaning. In this context it just means "events" but since "events" has already appeared as "eventi", you need to use a thesaurus to find an alternative for "events".

Party? / Artistic event / exhibition.. Maybe they could be asked to provide some more context, as you say it reminds me of beatniks! Based on what's below, if reliable and if it aligbs with their intention, I guess something like exhibition/event etc might work?
From word reference:
(ART). (art). Manifestazione di artisti d’avanguardia, alla quale il pubblico è chiamato a prender parte attiva estens. Ritrovo, festa senza programma prestabilito, in cui tutto può succedere.

Special events

I would say these are simply special events or, if you want to give the sense of spontaneity of a "happening" in the English sense, maybe "live events"

Social & business events

Hi Peter
cene di gala
banqueting
team building
All these events are going to have a group of people in a social context so I reckon you could use "social events" to differentiate from the heading "Events".
As team building and maybe gala dinners might be more work than just strictly social oriented maybe "Social & business events"

Just social events might also be OK but to my mind this suggests pleasure rather than business, although not according to the definition below.

Noun, 1. social event - an event characteristic of persons forming groups

experiential events

This might be the new "thing" in the business world, OTOH I might be over-interpreting :) James Wallman writes a bit about it in his great book "Stuffocation".

"Experiential marketing is a cross-media promotional activity which encourages two way interaction and direct physical immersion into a brand. Experiential marketing is a relatively young marketing discipline, but is growing rapidly because it ticks a lot of the right boxes. Compared to mass media campaigns, experiential events tend to communicate on a much more personal level, generate a deeper level of emotional engagement, result in better conversion rates, and all at relatively low cost. Experiential marketing activities can range from high profile invite only events to tasters at a local farmer's market."
