Russian term
информационные «смыслы»
Russian to English
Other
Other
С одной стороны, компания «хромых уток», в которую незаметно превратилась «блистательная семерка», нуждается, чтобы рядом с ними появился человек, который реально способен принимать жесткие политические и международные решения и эффективно их реализовывать. А не только создавать информационные «смыслы», раздувать их до масштабов региональной гуманитарной катастрофы, а затем признавать, что кто-то что-то недодумал и ошибся, и, вероятно, искренне считать, что сделал хороший пиар-ход.

imho it's OK for this passage, but not sure about the rest of the text.
Note from asker:
This gives a satisfactory meaning in context, though the normal term is информационные поводы. Perhaps this means the same thing. Anyway, I've used this translation. Many thanks, I'll award points anon. |

informational meanings
По идее, «информационные смыслы» — это калька с английского.

In summary, the meanings of paralinguistic forms are grounded in anatomi-
cal and physiological effects, range widely over `affective' and `informational'
meanings, and are non-arbitrary, although speech communities may fine-tune
meanings or have different preferences where interpretations of the various
codes are in competition.

Re: In your own words, what does "informational meanings" mean?
I think it means dry, unemotional meaning.

Note from asker:
In your own words, what does "informational meanings" mean? I'm English, and to me it makes no sense whatsoever; it may even be tautological! |
Thanks for your added notes. Yes, I see that it has some kind of meaning in applied linguistics, but I find it hard to see what it would mean in my context; the suggestion in your first note might be right, but I'll take it as an educated guess unless you can support it! |

Basically, hands on management is needed, rather than management by slogans. I wouldn't translate what sounds like 'man in the pub' text too literally

media memes
It's a guess, but I wonder if the author had "memes" in mind, insofar as this term has come to mean not only visual images online, but sometimes any time of "notion" that is spread, and also there doesn't seem to be a fixed Russian way of expressing it, other than "мем".
Is the article, by any chance, a cynical discussion of the G-7 and the refugee crisis in Europe?

In this context "talking points" would be fine, however, if you need "информационные поводы", please see:
