salt mist (spray) test

The salt mist spray test is a standardized test method used to check corrosion resistance of coated samples. The test produces a corrosive attack to the coated samples in order to predict the coating's suitability in use as a protective finish.

You can of course translate Phase literally as phase (or stage), but it's actually a test.

The document in question concerns Elektrische und elektronische Komponenten in Kraftfahrzeugen bis 3,5t (Volkswagen)

The term in question occurs in conjunction with
DIN EN 60068-2-11
This corrosion test involves the use of salt mist.

Herr Runge has kindly suggested a translation for Phase:
salt mist spray cycle
salt mist cycle
spray cycle
spraying cycle
Peer comment(s):

neutral Bernd Runge : Cycle, technically speaking, is usually one complete 'thing' like a sine wave cycle, a stress cycle (Moore), an automatic CNC cycle... So, cycle may still not be the best solution. I'm not saying your answer is wrong, it just wouldn't be my first choice.

'Period' or 'time' are not the terms used in English. Check out the instructions for any washing machine where they refer to the wash cycle, rinse cycle and spin cycle. Cycle is perfect here. I don't understand why you are disowning it.

Usually γ, δ, or other phases form after spraying, while α phase (corundum) is often the most desirable phase due to high corrosion resistance and hardness.

neutral Bernd Runge : Your link concerning the term phase couldn't have been more misleading ;-) Although the term itself may be ok to use.

agree Bernd and clicked and pasted hastily
agree Anne-Katrin Grube : with Bernd: link's awful! "spraying phase" seems correct, however "spraying time" seems better

'tis and better forgotten Anne
