Spanish term
Desarrollando sus funciones
Spanish to English
Other
General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Reference
Context: a reference in Spanish for a nurse.
Sentence:
"Desarrollando sus funciones tales como atencion geriatrica integral, toma de constantes, preparacion y administracion de la medicacion, ingresos, altas , gestion de la documentacion, registros y protocolos con notable profesionalidad y eficiencia."
The use of the gerund is confusing me here (Spanish is my third foreign language so I may well be missing something!).
Or is something missing?
Literally, I would put:
"Developing her role including integral geriatric care, checking vital signs, preparation and administration of medication, admissions, discharges, management of documents, records and forms with considerable professionalism and efficiency."
This clearly sounds terrible, so I would be grateful to know if something is missing or if not, how I should be rendering it.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure why you are unhappy with the gerund, but if you don't want to use a gerund in your translation, depending on what goes before, you could always say something like ... she performed duties such as .....

Performing its funcions; engaging in its activitie; etc.
That's what desarrollar funciones means.

Activities*
Might use "such as" instead of "including"
Desarrollar sus funciones is synonymous with Dedicarse / Abocarse a sus actividades, Realizar sus actividades, etc.

Your text seems to a job description, so I don't anything wrong with the gerund. But you can change that to future tense ("He/she will engage in...""

She carried out her duties
just putting this in as the way I would go

this is a reference after all, so past tense would be appropriate: she did, she was etc.

forget gerunds etc. and just go for what we would say in English

look at your source text and it will probably reflect a past tense as it's a reference
