English term

skim coating

English to Greek Science Materials (Plastics, Ceramics, etc.)
Skim coating is the process of applying a very thin covering of joint compound or mud, to smooth out rough wall and ceiling surfaces.
This can involve the application of a single coat of mud to hide minor imperfections, or it can involve the use of several coats to build up a smooth, finished surface. In addition, skim coating can be done over a small area, or it can be done over an entire wall/ceiling surface.

It is the last thin layer in 'plastering', to smooth over the undercoat (plaster) and also to receive the painting or wall-papering.
In this case, the 'plastering' was done by mud with the skim coating, to finish off, again with a thin layer of mud.

We use that phrase in the Construction Industry, for the last coating in gypsum plastering, or in applying the thin layer of plaster on top of plasterboards.

In dry-wall preparation, for painting, it is the covering of the hessian applied on the joints, to make the entire surface smooth and uniform with the plasterboards.
The 'hessian' ribbon/strip is placed along the length of joints to prevent cracks appearing afterwards.
