English term or phrase:
global Britain
Portuguese translation:
como Saqueadores Globais
English term
global Britain
I'm taking a master's degree in Translation and I'm currently translating a text about Brexit for evaluation. The text can be found here https://www.chathamhouse.org/publications/twt/preparing-uks-...
There's a term which meaning I don't understand: buccaneering "global Britain". I don't understand what buccaneering means in this context and the sense of global here.
Here's a transcription of the text (the term is at the very end):
On the one hand, a clear majority of the British electorate voted in the 23 June referendum for Britain to leave the EU. She has no choice but to follow through on the result. On the other, Leave supporters did not vote for a specific version of Brexit.
Alongside the many who were determined to free the country from the costs and constraints of EU membership, the majority included an anti-austerity and anti-globalization protest vote and those with a vision of a buccaneering ‘global Britain’.
Could someone help me understand what this means and translate it to Portuguese?

Buccaneer | Definition of Buccaneer by Merriam-Webster
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/buccaneer
Define buccaneer: a person who tries to become wealthy or powerful by doing things that are illegal or dishonest — buccaneer in a sentence.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buccaneer
Buccaneers were pirates of the Caribbean Sea who challenged Spanish hegemony on the region by attacking ships and sacking coastal settlements during the 17th and 18th centuries. Before long, they became a threat to non-Spanish settlements as well, and the target of anti-piracy crusades. Today the idea of a buccaneer plays a role similar to pirate.
The status of buccaneers as pirates or privateers was ambiguous. As a rule, the buccaneers called themselves privateers, and many sailed under the protection of a letter of marque granted by British, French or Dutch authorities. For example, Henry Morgan had some form of legal cover for all of his attacks, and expressed great indignation at being called a "corsair" by the governor of Panama.
Nevertheless, these rough men had little concern for legal niceties, and exploited every opportunity to pillage Spanish targets
