German term

in Absprache mit dem Hotel

Non-PRO German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) hotels
Change log

Jun 20, 2017 16:36: Murad AWAD changed "Term asked" from " in Absprache mit dem Hotel aus Kulanzgründen gegen eine entsprechende Gebühr " to " in Absprache mit dem Hotel "

Jun 20, 2017 16:45: writeaway changed "Field" from "Art/Literary" to "Bus/Financial"

Jun 20, 2017 21:39: writeaway changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Lancashireman, Armorel Young, writeaway

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Murad AWAD Jun 20, 2017:
Kuduz Rules The question didn't fit with the rules, so I edit it. There is nothing related to your answer.
philgoddard Jun 20, 2017:
I could see why you might not like my answer, but what's wrong with the question?
Lancashireman Jun 20, 2017:
Raj Your first two questions here were classified as non-pro. I suggest you stick to that classification for the foreseeable future.
Murad AWAD Jun 20, 2017:
philgoddard This comment is related to the question, it is not related to your answer.
Raj Sethi (asker) Jun 20, 2017:
I am sorry. I am new here so learning rules here. Could you please suggest to to me what I should do?
philgoddard Jun 20, 2017:
Murad There's nothing wrong with this question! My answer is (unavoidably) not in glossary format, but you posted your comment before I entered it.

by consulting with the hotel

"Considering our company often books through XXX.com and keeping in mind the requested travel time, I was wondering if (as a courtesy and by consulting with the hotel, if need be) you might be able to keep the booking fee below the price of USD 8,800 posted on the portal."

We should probably try to preserve the style of the original to the extent possible (unless it sounds completely ridiculous in English). After all, it’s not a translator’s job to “improve” the source text.

"Bewegen" here means something akin to "hover around"
Compare with these examples:
https://www.google.com/#q="number should hover around"

Hi Raj:
I think your term was longer when you first posted it. Looks like the moderator shortened it. You're actually lucky. Normally, they'll just delete them if they're too long since they don't want people to post queries consisting of more than one expression: http://www.proz.com/siterules/kudoz_asking/2.1#2.1

The term "sich bewegen" can be molded in myriad ways. For instance, you might say things like "Die Gebühr bewegt sich unter 8.800 Dollar = The fee is somewhere below USD 8,800" Admittedly, 'bewegen' may sound a little strange to the uninitiated, but that's just idiomatic German - you don't have to be too literal about it..

Raj:
If there's more content that you're struggling with and you haven't yet addressed it with a query, I don't see why you couldn't post another question. Just try to break it down yourself first and do a little research. If you're still at a loss, make your question as specific as possible by focusing on the aspect that gives you the most trouble.
Note from asker:
Michael, then what does "sich bewegen" mean here?
Thanks Michael for this, but "below" doesn't go with the hover around meaning "stay or near at" what do you think? Could you please also tell me seeing (the moderator's comnent) above, what rule did I break?
Thanks Michael, one more thing: I am still unable to understand what the customer is saying in relation to what I have in the context above that I didn't post. What should I do? Should I post again? The customer saying above regarding cancellation of the booking but this "what you helped me with" doesn't say anything about that. I am askng for your advice here. Raj
Yeah, thanks Michael. I will in a couple of hours.
Peer comment(s):

agree Lancashireman : This answer wins hands down under the "most helpful" criterion.

I am actually for eliminating the “helped asker the most” criterion for the obvious reasons but if mods had to select answers, that would raise a whole set of other issues..

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks as always, Michael."

... whether, as a goodwill gesture, the hotel would agree a rate lower than the USD 8,800 specified on the website.
