Measuring Depth of Draw
A can with a draw depth of 1.000 has to be held to within .005 tolerance. After the final draw in an idle station, an inductive proximity sensor with analog output is mounted directly under the pressure pad, aimed at the bottom surface of the can. At the bottom of the stroke, the sensor will send an output based on the distance be- tween the bottom of the draw and the sensor face. If the dimension is either shallow or deep, the press controller can be programmed to stop the press.
