The distinction between possessory and petitory protection is also known in GREEK law. CC art. 991 provides that the defendant in a possessory trial for interference or dispossession cannot invoke a right to exercise physical control over the thing, unless this right has been judicially recognised with a res judicata effect in a court proceeding between the defendant and the claimant.
