Or it could have been written by a... ...non-native speaker. That they're asking for a translation into Spanish, or that it's published in the US, may not speak to its language-related origin. That's my take, at least, as a native speaker of English, born and raised in the US. In any event, I think you've found a natural-sounding translation. Especialización queda perfecto. No creo Están pidiendo la traducción a español y es un artículo de una publicación estadounidense... no creo que el original sea en español. Los niveles académicos y los nombres de cursos e institutos en EE. UU. siempre me confunden.
