Discussion

Marcelo González May 7, 2018:
@Anthony - Claro, siempre depende del contexto. When I was growing up in New Jersey, "first string" was commonly heard in the context of youth sports, this to distinguish between those who started and those who were "on the bench," e.g., a first string catcher (or first string quaterback in football). At the professional level, it´s not commonly heard, but the context here is softball afterall, where it may be in use at the women´s collegiate level in the US.
Anthony Mazzorana (X) May 7, 2018:
@Melanie
Si Melanie, depende un poco del contexto pero si, se suele decir "starter", o "starting pitcher" o lo que sea.
Marcelo González May 7, 2018:
y sólo si ya se entiende... ...por el contexto. Si no, se diría ´starting pitcher´.
starter ... costumbra refersi al pitcher
Melanie Casanova (asker) May 7, 2018:
Starter ¿"Starter" bastará para indicar que es titular de escuadra?

Neil Thanks
agree Marcelo González : To the extent the source text refers to the nine players who start the game, this is it.

Marcelo Thanks
agree Neil Ashby : Or "starting squad", but that might be a Britishism/only relevant to football.
