Discussion

Murad AWAD Aug 26, 2018:
The whole sentence In beiden Fällen erfolgte die CEO-reaktion als Direktantwort auf ein einzelnen Kommentar und nicht also Sammelantwort
Björn Vrooman Aug 24, 2018:
Elisabeth I believe this means they are responding to users on Twitter instead of putting out general (you might even say generic) statements.

Cf
"If you visit someone’s profile, you’ll see two types of tweets – ones that are general statements for everyone to see and ones that are a direct tweet to another user."

collective response

The context seems to be not dissimilar to this:

"Depending on the number of comments received and the resources available,
acknowledgement
can take the form of:

an individual response (by e-mail or acknowledgement slip), or

a collective response (by e-mail or on the Commission’s single access point for
consultation on the Internet; if comment
s are posted on the single access point
within 15 working days, this will be cons
idered as acknowledgement of receipt).

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "In the context, I believe this was the right response. It's vague enough to mean a lot of different things! I mean that in a good way. Thanks!"

sweeping response

Another choice, IMO.

an "antwort" is an answer (or a reply), a "sammelantwort" is an pre-written answer/reply to all, so a generic answer (or reply)

general statement / generic response / broad-brush answer

"If you visit someone’s profile, you’ll see two types of tweets – ones that are general statements for everyone to see and ones that are a direct tweet to another user."

In my opinion, a collective response is a coordinated effort. More than one person needs to be involved:
https://www.ahpnw.nhs.uk/latest-news/291-request-for-comment...
https://ras.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2018-06/Response_to_Ca...

A sweeping response, on the other hand, would need to be comprehensive:

http://www.ilo.org/global/about-the-ilo/newsroom/news/WCMS_5...

I think it's neither.

A Sammelantwort is when you gather questions from people on Twitter and respond to all of them in a single tweet or series of tweets (or post a screenshot). Naturally, this won't be enough to address specific issues.

There is, of course, this kind of Sammelantwort:
https://twitter.com/corinnamilborn/status/101355035359641600...

Not very detailed, though; merely describes a sequence of events and responds in a very limited fashion. Also, see JT: https://twitter.com/jtimberlake/status/747300505492168704?la...

Also, blanket response.

Examples:
"For instance, instead of putting out fires as they come up on Twitter and Facebook as a result of my off-the-cuff tweet, I can have a blanket response to all of them in one big post I can link to."
https://sites.psu.edu/astrowright/2017/06/22/outreach-and-re...

"Seen a few comments and had some DMs on this topic, so just thought I’d send a blanket response...."
https://twitter.com/FPLFamily/status/1028702986724368386

"Martin Shkreli was arrested by the Feds on securities fraud charges yesterday, but the field office in NYC took to Twitter to give a blanket response to all who were inquiring about the coveted Wu project."

That's a match.
Peer comment(s):

agree Lancashireman : with generic response. A collective response would come from a group of respondents.

Thanks! That reminds of the time when I emailed Walmart, asking about their giftcards. What I got back was a paragraph copied and pasted from the company's website--the exact same one I had read a few minutes before writing the email.
agree Herbmione Granger : I prefer general statement. Pretty sure Direktantwort here refers to replying as a comment to the tweeter, so this is the visible alternative.

Thanks! And agree RE Direktantwort. Don't you just love those screenshots, BTW? It's like you create a service people can use to post short messages and all they do is add photos of their page-long public apologies :D

Thanks! Am I glad that we can use more than 280 characters--my answers would be a huge cryptic mess...
